Only 8,200 Trentonians voted in the last mayoral election, about 18% of Trenton’s registered voters, and less than 10% of the city’s population. What will it take to engage Trentonians and motivate them to exercise their right to vote? Micah Rasmussen, Director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, will examine Trenton’s voter dilemma during the next Kiwanis Club of Trenton presentation at noon on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. All are welcome to attend the program in Leonardo’s II Restaurant, 2021 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Please RSVP to mccormicknj@aol.com by August 4, 2026. Lunch will be available off the menu for $20.
As Director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, Micah Rasmussen connects students with practical learning experiences, brings visiting public officials to campus, and provides analysis of the state’s political landscape. His teaching draws from the three decades he has been involved in the government and politics of the Garden State. Professor Rasmussen served as Governor James E. McGreevey’s press secretary, where he handled crisis communications during the Governor’s historic resignation. He also served as communications director for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, worked in the New Jersey General Assembly, and managed several political campaigns.
Founded in 1918, the Kiwanis Club’s programs have supported children’s services, community events and, since 1955, the Kiwanis Camp Fund, which has raised over $2 million for summer camp experiences for Trenton children. In addition to the ongoing Camp Fund, Kiwanis initiatives have included Heritage Week, Trenton’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday, as well as “Vision Trenton,” a collaborative community effort to stimulate economic redevelopment by promoting Trenton’s extensive historic assets.
