Timbuk2 Academy is a private co-ed learning center providing affordable, high-quality childcare for children ages 3-6 and personal development programs for girls ages 9-22. We place emphasis on academic excellence and cultural awareness; combining traditional and evidenced based practices to increase critical and logical thinking skills, thus strengthening cognitive, physical, social, emotional, aesthetic, and spiritual development. We create the essential, non-bias learning environment required for our children to increase knowledge of self: self-respect, self-discipline, self-love, self-awareness and self-expression. Timbuk2 Academy produces well-rounded youth and committed to uplifting our families and community.
A Foundation Built On Integrity (our history)
Timbuktu Academy was founded by Jamilah Abdul-Raheem and her husband, Umar Abdul-Raheem. The academy opened its doors to the community in 1982 and was one of the only African-Centered learning centers in Trenton, NJ. Despite being in a heavy crime and drug populated area, the school was dominantly successful. The integrity, academic excellence and quality of education the children received, attracted families from the inner city and suburban areas. Timbuktu Academy was very victorious and was awarded constantly throughout by various organizations.
Timbuktu Academy is now operating as Timbuk2 Academy under the direction of Ayana Abdul- Raheem; daughter of Umar and Jamilah Abdul-Raheem.
Early Childhood Education
T2A Youth Empowerment Programs(Y.E.P)
Hailing from a family of educators, Ayana Abdul-Raheem discerned her passion for education and youth work at a very young age. Ayana is currently the CEO and Founder of Timbuk2 Academy, a culturally centered early childhood academy located in Trenton, NJ and T2A Youth Empowerment Programs, a subsidiary of Timbuk2 Academy; providing developmentally appropriate programs and services to pre-teen, teenage and young adult women. Ayana is directly responsible for all administrative, management and operational duties, including writing grants, educational curriculums and youth programs.
