Trenton Animals Rock (TAR) is an all-volunteer, 501c3 nonprofit that provides funding funding for medical care, training and boarding for injured, abandoned and abused dogs exclusively from the Trenton Animal Shelter. We also offer a home-based foster program. 

 No, Trenton Animals Rock is made up of volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting the animals in the shelter, as well as after they are placed in foster homes or boarding programs.

We are the rescue group that manages the volunteer program, adoption and foster program for the Trenton Animal Shelter. We are not city employees and we have no authority over any city employees.

You can see all our available dogs listed on our PetFinder page. Most dogs are not at the shelter and you will have to arrange a meeting at another location like a park or foster home. The best way to arrange this is to email us at info@tarnj.org or to apply on PetFinder.

$250-$450 depending on the breed, age and other factors of the dog. You will be notified when you apply what the fee for that dog will be.

Step 1. Visit tas.petfinder.com to see our available dogs. 

Step 2. Apply for a dog you are interested in by completing a full application, not by submitting an inquiry. If you submit an inquiry, we will ask that you submit an application.

Step 3. A volunteer screener will be in touch with you to discuss your application and the dog 

Step 4. References will be checked. 

Step 5. A meet and greet will take place with you, the dog and any other pets or people who live in your home.

Step 6. You complete an Adoption Agreement and pay the adoption fee.

Step 7. The dog is yours - yay!

Fostering is a great way to help TAR get dogs out of the shelter quickly so they can decompress in a home while they await their forever family. 

 

When fostering you should be prepared to commit to the dog for as long as it takes to get adopted, which could be a few weeks to a few months. 

 

You should be comfortable transporting the dog to meet and greets with potential adopters as well as to vet visits and adoption events.

 

We will cover the cost of medical care. 

 

If you need assistance covering the cost of food and treats and toys, you can submit receipts for reimbursement up to $50 per month for six months.

 

We are also all volunteers. It is important to remember this and be comfortable with the fact that we may not be able to respond to your texts or emails ASAP. We are not "on call" and we work as a team so we appreciate you treating us with the same patience, kindness and respect that you expect in return.
